IF YOU ARE NOT THINKING ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING, IT IS BECAUSE YOU ARE TOO OLD
Growing up, we’ve often heard of the golden age where everything was in abundance – big houses, cars, jobs. That was the era of the baby boomers, the generation blessed with the greatest opportunities. Yet, it seems they might have been the generation to use up a huge chunk of Earth’s resources without thinking about the repercussions. Was it greed? A lack of moral values? Or simply the high of the moment? The golden age of baby boomers was bought at the cost of our planet’s health. Their reckless disregard has paved the path we’re desperately trying to detour from. They lived through some of the most significant events in history – the moon landing, the rise of rock ‘n’ roll, the civil rights movement. But while enjoying all of this, the baby boomers failed to see the signs, or worse, chose to ignore them. The signs that said, “This is unsustainable. This might ruin the planet for future generations.” From suppressing critical environmental research to selling out democratic institutions to corporate powerhouses, the legacy of the boomers feels less golden and more tarnished.
