Global Warming or not – Plastic is a real problem!

Some people don’t believe in Global Warming and some do believe it is as a reality. Global warming is such a divisive issue that those who accept it cannot image that others cannot see it. And people who think it is a made up issue and think of conspiracies. Weather global Warming is a real thing or not – there is no doubt that we are over exploiting our Planet beyond its natural ability to normalise its environment.

Deforestation, over mining, over use of chemicals in agriculture that is slowly seeping in to our waters, plastic litter that is slowly damaging the ecology, these are issues that are separate from global warming and human induced weather change. Even if we don’t accept deforestation, over mining etc because we live in a big city and cannot see it for ourselves and don’t want to believe anything we don’t see with our eyes. I think that is a very valid argument. But how about the over use of Plastic? How about the disposable plastic Foam food containers and utensils that are single use? How about Plastic Straws, plastic bags, plastic spoons and forms, product packing materials. So much plastic all around us that we use just once or a few times and throw.

Are we addicted to plastic?

That includes every toothbrush you used as a kid or the toys you played with, or the lego brick you throw into the creek as a kid. And also includes every foam plate you used at the BBQs or the plastic cups you used for your camping cocktails. Everything! It is time we realise the issue because our living standard is going up and so is our consumption level. And the impact of the plastic litter is already making its impact on our ecology and oceans. And also impacting our drinking water. Plastic microfibers are entering our drinking water and we have no way to filter that. Using our Tote bags does not fully eliminate the use of plastic – although we are working towards it. But still it does make a dent into the plastic usage and changes our habits and helps us be more aware. It is a small start but by all means a very impactful change.
